Mission Statement

The primary purpose of TNWCTeam is to spread the passion we share for cycling with our community. The sport of cycling has saved many members’ lives as we have struggled to achieve acceptance in our communities. Rather than succumb to the struggles and challenges we face as trans women, each cyclist has instead chosen a path of resilience, strength, tenacity, love, and civil stewardship. We ride for one another, and for our nation, as fully engaged examples of the power and beauty of being our authentic selves. TNWCTeam actively promotes civility for all and encourages all to embrace their true selves in the pursuit of a deeply meaningful and fully committed life.

Race Team

The Race Team is open to anyone wanting to be a part of TNWCTeam on a higher racing level. The yearly dues for the Race Team are $90.00. These dues are refundable assuming a member meets the stipulations below. Additionally, Race Team members will have full access to our sponsors and be allocated free product if it is provided to the team. The yearly dues for the Club Team are $90.00. No reimbursements will be made for Club Team members. Club Team members will have access to all TNWCTeam sponsors for discounts. Camp

At this time, TNWCTeam will have at least one 4-day yearly team camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Details will be shared to the TNWCTeam Members Facebook group.

Confidentiality

Member agrees that the information contained here within this agreement, any personal information pertaining to other TNWCTeam members  that was not provided as part of member biographies, and any information pertaining to TNWCTeam sponsors shall be confidential. Any breach of this confidentiality may result in immediate dismissal from TNWCTeam and forfeiture of any dues paid.

Dues

Every year, continuing team members and those wanting to join the team must submit $90 to TNWCTeam to cover their team dues. These dues help pay for a variety of team-related expenses. Refunds are not given if for any reason the member leaves the team before the end of the season, or if the member is part of the Club Team.

However, if a current Race Team member meets all requirements as listed above, they are eligible to have their $90 team dues refunded at the end of the season. In order to have their dues refunded, race team members must:

  • Provide a list of results of all completed races with proof.
    • Proof
      • Screenshots of the USAC site will work, just make sure your name is in the screen shot and email that to us. USAC has a great phone app that makes it very easy to do this, so it is recommended that race team members download the app.
      • Race receipts work great too, so save all conformation emails.
      • Member is responsible retaining copies of all receipts. No receipts or screenshots = no reimbursement!
    • Accepted race disciplines include track, cyclocross, mountain, road, BMX, TT series, and criterium.
    • Member must finish the race—a DNF will not be counted for reimbursement.
  • Not be found to have violated the TNWCTeam Code of Conduct or Team Guidelines at any point in the season.

Facebook Group

The TNWCTeam Members Facebook Group is a closed group for TNWCTeam Members Only. Upon joining the team, members can request to join the group and will be granted access. Discussions in the TNWCTeam Members group are not restricted to cycling. However, you must keep it positive and respectful, or you will be asked you leave TNWCTeam. We are a small family and must take great care of one another. Civility, patience, and diplomacy are paramount.

Helmet and Protective Equipment

Members must wear a helmet at all times while riding a bicycle. TNWCTeam recommends use of sufficient protective equipment as recommended by UCI and USAC for use in competition in particular disciplines.

TNWCTeam is in no way responsible and member indemnifies TNWCTeam and TNWCTeam sponsors in the event of injury or illness on the road or on the trails, whether in competition, training, or racing. Members hereby state that they are in full compliance and possess current and sufficient medical insurance for racing and riding.

Internal Communications

TNWCTeam will send out an excel document to all club and race team members including member names, addresses, phone numbers, race categories. TNWCTeam also has a team calendar. Trans Inclusion in Sports

TNWCTeam has a strong interest in trans people competing in sports in the field that aligns with their gender. In pursuit of this, equity for trans individuals and fairness for all are both paramount. However, TNWCTeam does not advocate for specific trans inclusion policies. Code of Conduct

We cannot tolerate any misconduct by the team. While it is unfortunate, the reality is we will be under the microscope as pioneers in diversity. Please honor each other and all those fellow trans folk who have endured so much hurt and misery by choosing the high road at all times. Maintaining our decorum is about all of us—past, present, and future. This is an immense responsibility. Every team member recognizes we have built a team of trans women who are competitors and athletes. The team is a reflection of all of the hard work each and every one of us has put into building up the trans athletes that are underrepresented. Please be mindful and respect this in your actions on and off the bike.

In addition, there are specific expectations with regard to member conduct. Members must abide by the following Code of Conduct, or their membership will be discontinued at the TNWCTeam board’s discretion.

Members will…

  • Be an upstanding, positive cycling citizen and teammate.
  • Evidence outstanding personal behavior on social media.
    • Our sponsors follow many of our individual social media pages, and all members have to maintain a positive disposition on social media pages. Members will not post photos of offensive or rude behavior for the public to view. This is the first transgender team in history. We will have sponsors, media, and the community looking at our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts. Members will always keep it classy.
  • Follow all applicable cycling and traffic laws, both on the road and on the trail.
  • Fully adhere to the IOC, USAC, UCI, and USATF rules and local governing organizations when racing and training including the USAC/IOC Transgender policy at all times.
  • Always wear their TNWCTeam kit during training and competition.
    • We realize members may need to train occasionally in older kits, but we expect everyone to race in the current year’s kit. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Keep their race kit and bicycle clean, well maintained, and in proper working order. Member appearance reflects on TNWCTeam, team sponsors, and other members.

Members will not…

  • Speak on behalf of the team unless previously approved by the board, except to reference policies provided here or on our FAQ page.
    • This is especially important as it relates to comments about trans inclusion in sports.
      • When asked in their capacity as team members, members will reference the trans inclusion policy of the TNWCTeam: TNWCTeam does not advocate for specific trans inclusion policies. We have confidence that those involved in creating these policies will make informed and fair decisions about the specifics of what trans inclusion looks like, and we are committed to maintaining compliance with all relevant policies.
      • When asked in their capacity as private individuals, or professionals, members are free to respond as they see fit, so long as it is clear that their comments/opinions/positions do not reflect that of TNWCTeam. When in doubt, ask a board member.
  • Engage in guest-riding (racing) with other teams, clubs, organizations, sponsors, or brands without prior consent. Members shall not combine teams or sponsors for use on entry form or race result sheets without prior consent.
  • Use any benefits received as a Race Team or Club Team member for financial gain, or pass them along to others. Benefits are solely for member’s personal use. All benefits shall be kept confidential.
  • Cause or engage in negative interactions on or off the bike—no cussing, offering of unsolicited advice, chasing down your own teammates, intentionally crashing another rider, etc.
    • We know this is common sense, but it happens. We are not that team. Feel free to shock the cycling world with the depth of your decency, selflessness, and immense humanity. Winning is second to sportsmanship and etiquette for TNWCTeam.
  • Badmouth, disrespect, or negatively impact our sponsors in any way.
    • Please be mindful that situations, such as complaining on Facebook about someone not being able to fix your bike, is a negative statement that could reflect poorly on a sponsor. Reflect, think, and discuss before making that public post.
  • Consume any substances banned by the anti-doping terms of USADA, WADA, USCF, CCA, FIAC, UCI, IOG, or any anti-doping, participating or governing body, event related. TNWCTeam competes fairly at all times.
    • The use of any such substance will result in an immediate termination of this agreement and expulsion as a member of TNWCTeam. Members acknowledge it is their sole responsibility to know the current list of banned substances and what substances they put in their body.
